The basic formula is to mix a bit of alcoholic drink with juice or sparkling water, add ice and lemon, orange, berries, mint, or other good stuff to give extra flavour and appearance.

Here are some classic examples:

White wine spritzer (1 person)

ice

100ml favourite white wine

50ml sparkling water (soda water is also ok)

dash of orange or lemon bitters

1 orange or lemon twist

Pour wine into a wineglass filled with ice; top off with club soda and bitters. Garnish with an orange twist. Enjoy.

Strawberry-Rosé spritzer (8 persons)

500g straweberries

750ml (1 bottle): rosé wine

500ml sparkling water (soda water)

100ml Aperol (or similar)

2 tbsp lemon juice

Combine strawberries and wine in a large pitcher. Cover and chill for 3 hours to infuse the wine. Strain wine into a large bowl, reserving some strawberries for garnish. Return wine to pitcher. Stir in sparkling water, Aperol, and lemon juice. Divide among ice-filled glasses. Garnish each with a lemon twist and a few reserved strawberries.
